During the recent home visits conducted by the Foundation staff in Calabar South, Calabar Municipal, and Akamkpa Local Government Areas, several important observations and interventions took place to support caregivers and their children.

Hygiene Counseling: Mary Ndarake, the caregiver of Emmanuel Edet Itam received counseling regarding her son’s personal hygiene, as he often appeared unkempt at home. The staff advised her to monitor her child’s hygiene more closely. Emmanuel Edet Itam himself was also counseled on the importance of maintaining personal cleanliness. The team emphasized Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) education, promoting practices such as regular bathing, the use of body cream, and keeping clothes clean to help prevent illness and skin infections.

School Readiness: Magdalene was counseled about the lack of a proper school uniform for her child, as school had resumed over three weeks ago, and she had only just acquired a shirt and sandals.

Academic Monitoring: Benjamin Mbey, father of Miriam, Treasure, and Prince, received commendation from the Foundation staff for keeping his children’s academic results organized in a folder and ensuring their uniforms were well cared for. This proactive approach to monitoring their academic performance is encouraged among all caregivers.
